Byte Federal Data Breach Settlement

All U.S. residents whose private information was impacted by the Byte Federal data breach that occurred on Nov. 18, 2024.

Byte Federal, a Bitcoin ATM operator, has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit stemming from a data breach that occurred on November 18, 2024. The breach allegedly exposed sensitive consumer information, including names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and cryptocurrency transaction details.

The lawsuit claims Byte Federal failed to use adequate cybersecurity safeguards, which allowed unauthorized access to its systems and customer data. Affected individuals say they’ve had to spend time and money protecting themselves from fraud and identity theft following the incident.

Without admitting liability, Byte Federal agreed to a settlement to resolve the claims and compensate those affected

What Settlement Class Members Can Receive

Eligible class members may receive the following benefits:

• Expense Reimbursement: Up to $3,000 for out-of-pocket losses tied to fraud, identity theft, professional assistance, credit monitoring, or similar expenses.

• Lost Time Compensation: Up to $80 for time spent responding to the breach, based on four hours at $20 per hour.

• Credit Monitoring Services: Two years of free identity protection valued at $90/year. This includes dark web surveillance, credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, and fraud recovery support.

To qualify for any of the above benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by August 19, 2025.

This settlement provides meaningful compensation and protection for those impacted by the breach as digital privacy and security continue to be top concerns for cryptocurrency users.
